    Abstract

The new Act on Forest Reproductive Material, which was adopted in June 2002, in accordance with the EU Directive on the marketing of forest reproductive material, demands the demarcation of regions of provenance for the production of forest reproductive material. In this paper, the proposal for demarcation of ecological regions and sub-regions, which are the basis for defining the proposal regions of provenance, is presented. The borders of ecological regions are transitional or mosaic. For rationalisation of the delimitation of the regions of provenance in the field and easier control of usage, the borders of the regions of provenance are, as much as possible, adapted to the management and administrative borders, which are marked in the field. The basis for delimitation of seven regions of provenance, divided into 4 altitudinal zones, is presented.
