Abstract
This article deals with tree damage caused by felling and wood extraction. It presents the results of anticipated tree stand damage determined on the basis of a model, and makes a comparison with field measurements of the damage on the spot. The constituent parts of damage caused are established on the basis of the quantity of cut wood per hectare, the density of secondary infrastructure, the number of trees per hectare, and the age of tree stand. Both the model and field measurements show important similarities, however discrepancies also appear. The latter may be partly due to the construction of the model, and partly to the field measurements, as they could not as yet encompass all the most important variants to a satisfactory extent. The average values of tree damage in the stands after cutting and wood extraction are shown according to extraction types. Average and greatest numbers of damaged trees were calculated according to our model.
