Abstract
This article wants to discuss from a mathematical point ow wiev properties of functions that are used by forest engineers, agronomists and biologists for description of growth of some quantities like growth of height, thickness, or volume of trees in dependence of time etc. To illustrate these processes normally the elementary piecewise analitical functions are used, because to these the methods of approximation of experimental data can be applied. Nevertheless, those functions only roughly show the actual events in the small intervals of an independent variable. It is necessary then, to aply more solid foundations and criteria to determine the types of more appropriate functions which could describe any of phenomena of this kind.
