    Abstract

Global positioning sistem is contemporarily tool for acquiring up-to-date and precise spatial data in forestry. Accuracy of GPS measurements alternate between 1-15 meters, depending on work method and outer conditions. With use of differential correction accuracy is increased to range of 1-5 meters. Most of needs can be covered in forestry with this range of accuracy. Digital ortofoto map in scale of 1:5000 and 1:10000 offer similar accuracy. Topographic maps used in forestry are often old and less accurate. GPS was proven as useful with renewal of tematic maps, specially with forest road mapping. Usage of GPS for acquiring ground control points in fotogrametry can significantly increase accuracy of ortofoto maps. The results of GPS mesurement can be relatively easy and fast integrated in existing geographic information sistem.
